Question #7Aqeedah

My mom force me to make sacrifices to "esu" by buying oil, fowl and kolanut. How can I amend with Allah, and is it possible?

Answered: October 26, 2026
Summary of Answer

It is impermissible to obey anyone, including one's parents, in matters that involve disobedience to Allah. However, parents must still be treated with kindness and respect. Whoever commits an act that nullifies Islam must sincerely repent by regretting the act, abandoning it, and firmly resolving not to return to it. Allah accepts sincere repentance from those who return to Him.

Detailed Answer & Evidence

Assalamu alaykum warahmatuLlahi wabarakātuh.

Please always begin with the Islamic greeting of Salam before asking your question.

This is part of the good manners expected of a Muslim. BaarakAllahu feekum.

On your question;

You ought not to have done that even if your mother insists. You must never do anything that goes against the command of Allah to please anyone.

Allah, the Most High, says:

"But if they strive to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in this world with appropriate kindness and follow the way of those who turn back to Me [in repentance]. Then to Me will be your return, and I will inform you about what you used to do." [Luqman: 15]

And the Prophet ﷺ said:

From 'Imran ibn Al-Husayn, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "There is no obedience to a created being in disobedience to the Creator." [Reported by Ahmad]

As for repentance:

The door to repentance is always open. If someone falls into an act that nullifies Islam, he returns to it by:

1. Sincerely regretting what he did,

2. Abandoning that act of disbelief, and

3. Firmly resolving never to return to it.

If the repentance is sincere from the heart, Allah will accept it.

Allah says:

"And indeed, I am the Perpetual Forgiver of whoever repents and believes and does righteousness and then continues in guidance." [Ta-Ha: 82]

And it is reported from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "...And Allah accepts the repentance of whoever repents." [Al-Bukhari]

May Allah forgive your shortcomings and keep your feet firm upon Islam.

Wallahu A'lam.
